Driving in the Rain

At some point, vehicle owners experience the challenge of driving during a torrential downpour. However, with a few tips, the journey becomes safer. Along with the rain, the inclement weather often includes sudden gusts of wind. Expect the change and retain a firm grip on the steering wheel. Pay attention to larger vehicles that include semi-trailers and trucks pulling trailers. The vehicles may experience swaying. Be prepared.

Heavy rain decreases a vehicle's visibility. Accommodate the problem by turning on your headlights. Slow down to prevent hydroplaning and slipping on the road. Allow for more space between your vehicle and the one in front of you.

Resist the urge to use cruise control. The weather and road conditions often warrant continual changes in speed. If the vehicle begins sliding of skidding, do not slam on the brakes. Calmly steer in the direction and path that the vehicle was traveling in before the slide.
