Fast becoming a standard feature on most vehicles, auto-dimming mirrors are all the rage. Why? What are they, and what makes them work? Our team at Fox Grand Traverse Lincoln has your quick intro.
Why We Love Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirrors
Driving in low-light scenarios is challenging, especially when you consider the glare from other vehicles on the road. Auto-dimming mirrors detect and minimize this glare automatically, allowing you to keep your hands on the wheel, your eyes on the road. The days of having to switch between normal view and anti-glare view are all but over.

Also called electrochromic mirrors, auto-dimming mirrors contain special materials and components. These materials and components detect and respond automatically to light, causing the rearview mirror to darken when necessary. The main components and materials are a control unit, a darkening gel that changes color in response to electricity, photo sensors and glass with a coating of electrically-conductive material.
